The Headline Challenge has been a regular feature on radio stations in Teesside for many years.

Ali Brownlee, sadly no longer with us, hosted the breakfast show on BBC Radio Tees and just before 9.00am every weekday he would discuss the days headline with the Editor of the Northern Echo Peter Barron. The two well known characters were largely responsible for growing the popularity of the five minute fun item aired each weekday morning.

Ali, who was also the voice of Middlesbrough FC being the BBC Tees main commentator, tragically lost a battle with cancer but he will never be forgotten. His charm and good nature endeared him to all who knew him and his legendary football commentaries, including “all round to mine for a Parmo” will live long in the memory.

Ali made a significant impression with all aspects of work and his many charitable commitments. His presence is very sadly missed.

This wonderful double act created many fun filled moments such as the one featured below which had breakfast listeners crying into their cornflakes with laughter, along with Ali who ranked it as his all time favourite.
